Water melons and high explosives - just a normal day in the SFX business

Testing squibs and explosives for some SFX in a commercial

Today we tried five different sizes and types of so called squibs for an effect in a commercial. Our goal was to disperse a plastic bag full of water without damaging the wall behind it too much. In the end we opted for a little bit wall damage and a nice dispersal pattern using 1g of PETN. While testing a new antenna system during a 7km flight we managed to record some nice footage. In this video you can just see on leg of the flight - seeing the drone return same path seemed a bit boring to watch for me. We just came back home after shooting a commercial in Athens and during one of our test-flights I managed to shot this awesome scenery. Also found a nice tune by Doug Maxwell and made a longer version of it to fit the video. Enjoy!

How to not light a camp fire

This is a SFX test performed for a movie to see the effects of of trying to light a camp fire with 10 liters of gasoline. Due to volatile nature of the gasoline, a lot evaporates within even 30 seconds and leads to this. So always just use some cardboard and paper! p.s. You should also not light a camp fire within a dry forrest - we had a handfull of firefighters at hand. You most likely not......

This video was made with our ultraviolett sensitive camera setup. The black stuff you are seeing is actually rather transparent sunscreen. We have a range of specialised cameras for ultraviolet, infrared and other special effect cinematography. And what we don't have, we'll custom build - feel free to inquire.

sunscreen prevent premature aging such wrinkles and fine lines. Also prevent hyperpigmentation.

A lot of Korean, Chinese, Japanese wearing sunscreen daily too. Sunscreen is not only for skin aging and skin cancer purposes. Sunscreen can also prevent and reduce hyperpigmentation, helps to fight damage from environmental stressors, ultimately improving skin barrier and skin hydration. And your skincare is useless without sunscreen. Tretinoin/retinol users MUST use sunscreen bcs tretinoin makes skin more sensitive to the sun. Brightening ingredients also useless if u dont protect the existing pigmentation from the sun in the first place.

Why they doing blackface?
When sunscreen appears black it means that the UV rays is being absorbed and converted into heat energy. This is how chemical sunscreens work. Whereas physical sunscreens may show as a white cast when you apply it on your skin and it reflects the UV rays away from the skin.
@olivia poprawska hello, Physical sunscreens offer (broad spectrum) protection which means that they block both UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays is linked to burning of the skin which causes it to become red and also induces melanin (skin pigment) production resulting in darker looking skin or tan. UVA rays penetrates deeper into the skin and causes the break down of collagen. As physical sunscreen provides protection from both types of UV rays, it can help prevent tanning. The SPF number on the bottle indicates the level of protection against UV-burning.
actually, physical sunscreens reflect about 5% of uv rays. The rest are absorbed similiar to chemical sunscreens.
